Village of Whiting Fire & Rescue News

December 25, 2008

On the morning of Christmas Day, both Plover Fire Department and Whiting Fire Department responded to a call for a house fire in the Town of Plover. The house sustained heavy damage but was saved along with most of their belongings. Thank you to each and every firefighter who helped. Below is the letter the family wrote to the Stevens Point Journal, also thanking everyone who responded and for giving up time from their families during Christmas to save another.
Thank You

With the help of our partners at FiberNet Internet Services, the Village of Whiting launched its new web site in June of 2008. As part of that, the Fire and Rescue Department will have a place on the information super highway to post information,
news, and other items of interest to the general public as well as our partners in the fire service in and around Portage County.
The web site is constantly being refined and developed. Check back often for news, events, and interesting photos of your
Fire Department and Village. Please look around, and if you should have any questions or comments, please let us know by contacting us at the link provided below.

Metro Fire District
September 1, 2008

PloverFD/WhitingFD

The Villages of Whiting and Plover have agreed to create a borderless joint fire protection area that encompasses both municipalities, and the new system actually went on line on August 29th of 2008. This agreement has effectively created a metropolitan fire protection district that both villages’ fire departments now mutually respond to, regardless of where the emergency takes place.

This automatic aid agreement between both Whiting’s and Plover’s fire departments is an enhancement of the previous agreement that has served each village well for over 3 years previously. Now a call for service triggers the automatic dispatch
of a total of three engine companies and one ladder company to any structure fire in the Metro Plover/Whiting area. It also
calls for mutual responses to other types of fires, rescues, and hazardous materials calls, and is spurring greater cooperation
and joint ventures such as training, fire inspections, pre-planning, fire investigations, purchasing, and public education. Metro also serves to cover the Town of Stockton for rescue services as well.

The goal is to eventually serve as a platform to evaluate the expansion of the Metro umbrella to other areas of the
metropolitan Portage County area. This intergovernmental cooperation agreement is another example of how your Village
and Fire Department are working to improve services, keep costs down, and provide the safest working environment for
our firefighters possible.
