Frozen Water Service-Alert

UPDATE - April 9, 2014

******Customers will be sent post card when you can shut your water off, continue running until that time.

If you experience reduced water pressure or water discoloration - IMMEDIATELY turn your water on full stream and contact Utilities Staff. (715) 572-9434

The Village of Whiting is issuing an alert to all village residents to immediately begin running a small stream of water.  TIP: A PENCIL SIZE STREAM OF WATER.  The Village is experiencing numerous water service freeze ups. Please allow the water to run 24 hours a day

In some areas of the village the frost depths have reached 5-6 feet which are at the same depth as many of the water lines. Water lines running under or across roads such as McDill Ave., Post road, Sherman Avenue, Tommy’s Turnpike, Elm St. are especially vulnerable to freezing up. Utilities personnel have been and will continue to notify residents and business owners in the areas most susceptible to freezing laterals.

To prevent water freeze-ups in the laterals we are asking that all residents and business owners begin running a stream of water from a faucet and should continue leaving the faucet running until further notice. A running stream about the diameter of a pencil is recommended and sufficient. Please allow water to run 24 hours a day. Continue running water until further notice.

You will not have to pay for the additional water usage as your utility bill will be adjusted to reflect historical average consumptions. At this time we are anticipating that water line freezing concerns may continue for at least another month.

If there are any questions feel free to contact our Utility staff at (715) 572-9434 or the Village Clerk’s office at 715-341-2742.

REVALUATION OF PROPERTY

The assessment staff of Pauls & Associates have begun the process of conducting a revaluation of Village properties. About 2 weeks prior to your home receiving a visit from the Assessor you should receive a postcard in the mail informing you of the visit.

Since a full revaluation is required the Assessors will request your permission to view the interior of your property to help establish accurate records for each property. The Assessor’s staff will begin work at 9 a.m. and work thru late afternoon Monday thru Friday. A couple of important points to remember here are:

  1. You should receive a Post Card prior to the visit.
  2. The Assessment staff will have Identification Cards. (Ask to see their Identification before allowing them into your home).
  3. The staff will not attempt to enter your home unless an adult property owner is present.

If you are not home, an exterior verification of measurements and photos will be completed. A tag will be left at your home indicting that the assessment staff had visited your home. Further instructions required of the homeowner will be supplied on the Post Card.
